Students and parents should be aware that qualification for National Merit Scholarships is based on 11th grade PSAT scores. High achieving 11th grade students who wish to be considered for National Merit Scholarships should absolutely take the PSAT. Many colleges and universities provide automatic merit scholarships to National Merit Scholarship finalists, but the only way to qualify is to take the PSAT in your junior year.
