I will have a revised list of Key Terms on my Quizlet tomorrow morning if you would like to start reviewing them for a quiz next week before we begin the US Civil War as well :-))))))
"Students are to take an issue, current or past, and write a persuasive essay that determines the legitimacy of the issue and its impact on history. One should think of legitimacy ( as opposed to illegitimate authority, i.e. Hitler's rise to power, as to authority or power of an entity or action and the impact it had on individuals in a particular time period or as it relates to people across time. This should be done in two pages or less."
PS- You know how I feel about Hitler...........
If you see Mr. Harwell in the halls, please thank Mr. Harwell again for taking the time out of his schedule to come talk with us!!! I have attached the link to the article discussed in class. Maybe it will help you with your essays :-).
Tomorrow we will finish The War of 1812 and take a quick state test that will NOT count for a grade.
Have a wonderful evening!
Please bring your Columbus essays to class tomorrow. I need to look at some of them.
As I am reading your essays, as a general comment, do not make a comment if you do not have evidence to back it up. Therefore, do not say something to the effect of, "Independence movements in Latin America were reactionary instead of revolutionary" if you do not have evidence that describes reactionary movements in specific countries and revolutionary movements in North America. You also would need to define both. Bold statements should be concise instead of "fluffy." I know I have said this before, but I need to reiterate it. Please keep this in mind during your discussions/seminars as well. Most of you did SOOOO much better today. I was a very proud momma today :-). Keep up the good work. Like Jean said, "Ms. Xiques was like a kid in a candy store today." :-) I love to see you succeed! Move forwards and not backwards. Take constructive criticism and USE IT!!!!! OK, I'm done. Go do something productive with the rest of your evening. Make someone feel good about themselves and finish your homework :).
Please post what time you would like to set-up for a conference. You have the option of 3:30, 4:00, and 4:30 beginning Tuesday, 9/8. Reply below and please make sure you check to see if it available.
1. Ellis asserts that the decade of the 1790s was “the most crucial and consequential in American history.” What reasons does he give to support this statement?
2. Looking back, it seems clear the American Revolution was part of a global transformation of nations, governments, and economic systems that has taken place in the last 250 years. Describe the type of system that has become the “model” of national success around the globe.
